Each year SLOCA distributes more than 200 Sister Boxes to newly diagnosed women throughout our community. Sister Boxes are presented to women at the offices of St. Louis area gynecologic oncologists, often at their first chemo treatment.
These boxes are filled with care and comfort items that can support a woman and make her feel less alone at what can be a very overwhelming time. We often receive thank you notes from the women who receive them, sharing just how uplifting they found them.
The Sister Boxes are assembled by SLOCA volunteers, a portion of the contents are purchased with the support of grants, but your support helps to continue to ensure that each woman, newly diagnosed and feeling alone, will receive a Sister Box.
A sample of the items included are:
- SLOCA Welcome letter and a card to mail in for a complimentary “Fight Like a Girl” t-shirt
- “Cancer Warrior” adult coloring book and colored pencils
- Chemo cap
- Cozy socks
- Throat drops and candies
- Eucerin lotion samples
- Kleancolor Teal Nail Polish
- Journal
- Survivor pin
- SLOCA Water Bottle
- SLOCA Baseball Cap
- Information on local resources
Please note that Sister Boxes are provided to newly diagnosed patients who are currently seeking treatment in the St. Louis metropolitan area through the treatment facilities where they receive treatment. They are not able to be shipped.
